Darren Robin founded KDA in 2022 to bring his love of dodgeball to Kuching. He first played with Storm Dodgeball Club while studying at Taylor's University, then continued playing in Sydney, Australia. After returning home and finding no local dodgeball community, he decided to build one.
The earliest sessions began with fewer than ten people and support from two friends who had played casually with Darren in Kuala Lumpur. The group learned through trial and error—finding the right schedule, court capacity and balance between teaching newcomers and playing competitively. Those lessons shaped today's structured Tuesday drop-ins.
By early 2023, newcomers were bringing friends and many stayed for the community as much as the sport. Friendships, relationships and groups beyond the court began to form. Tuesday sessions now regularly reach capacity, and some players organise additional sessions because one night a week no longer feels like enough.
The 2023 Sarawak Open showed how many players wanted to take dodgeball further. Demand grew for stronger structure, clubs and competitive development, helping establish Kuching as a place where players can begin casually and progress seriously.
KDA players represented Sarawak in the men's category at the 2023 National Dodgeball Championship and entered the 2023 Asia Pacific Invitational in Malaysia. Players have also joined open tournaments in West Malaysia, Singapore and Australia, while those who moved away for study continue developing their game and reconnecting with KDA when they return.
KDA's proudest achievement is the culture behind those opportunities: a community that welcomes newcomers and experienced players, locals and visitors alike. In the years ahead, KDA aims to make Kuching known for both that culture and the strong players it develops, supported by regular tournaments, clinics, school sessions and leagues.

The Kuching Dodgeball Open Tournament, plus the Sarawak Open in 2023 which drew more than 200 players from 15 clubs.
Held at least once every six months, giving newcomers a welcoming chance to try dodgeball and helping returning players hone their skills.
Working with schools, universities and companies to start new clubs. Kuching clubs operate under KDA's supervision while remaining free to manage their own activities and direction.
